Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is also the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In the following years, she was the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as a senator in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator who advocated for healthcare and federal de-scheduling cannabis. The path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally recognized. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
